Pull Up A Chair and Let's Chat!

If there ever was a universally liked recipe, these Cheeseburger Sliders recipe would be it. It's perfect for hungry kiddos and adults alike. Truly. And, they're so simple to throw together that you'll be making them over and over again.

These easy, delicious sandwiches are great for an easy weeknight dinner when you don't know what do make. They're also a fan favorite for game day and tailgating. I love making this when we have playdates because kids love them, too. Need a good idea for a holiday party appetizer? Look no further! They are truly perfect for any occasion.

Not only are they great for any occasion, but when I say they're about the easiest things I make, I'm not kidding. The sauce comes together in a matter of minutes. Brown the ground meat and onions, build the sliders, and let them hang out in the oven for a few minutes to get nice and melty. The hardest part is letting these little guys cool down so you can handle them.

Dunk them in that wonderful burger sauce and it will be nearly impossible to enjoy just one. I would know.

What You'll Need

Most of the ingredients in this Cheeseburger Sliders recipe are easy to find and probably in your fridge/freezer/pantry right now! Here’s everything you’ll need to make it:

  • Ground Beef, Onions, All-Purpose Seasoning - For the burger portion of the festivities.
  • Cheddar Cheese Slices and Monterrey Jack Cheese - Can't have a cheeseburger without cheese! Use what you have and your favorite. Anything will work!
  • Butter, Worcestershire Sauce, Sesame Seeds - For the buns. Makes them toasty, buttery, with a salty kick.
  • Ketchup, Mayonnaise, Whole Grain Mustard, Sweet Chili Sauce, Tamari, Dill Pickle Relish - For the best burger sauce ever!

How To Make Them

To say that I love this recipe is an understatement. It's delicious. It's simple. Everyone loves it. Right now, we're gonna focus on the simple part while we makes these little handheld beauties.

I'll give you a quick rundown here, but the specifics will live in the recipe card below. All you have to do is:

  1. Make the burger sauce
  2. Cook the beef
  3. Lay out the bottom layer of the buns
  4. Add one layer of cheese, the cooked beef, and another layer of cheese
  5. Add the bun tops
  6. Brush with butter mixture and bake
  7. Boom. Done.

Remove the Cheeseburger Sliders from the oven and let them cool slightly. This is the most difficult part of the entire recipe.

Now, pull apart, dip into that glorious burger sauce, and enjoy!

The Pickle Conundrum

I am Team Dill Pickle forever. I prefer it 100 to 1 in any recipe and for snacking. A sweet pickle situation ain't it for me. Bread and butter? Beat it! I don't like them.

That said, if you like sweet pickles or bread and butter pickles or a spicy pickle, use those in the burger sauce and to serve alongside these cheeseburger sliders!

You have to make these recipes your own. If you don't like an ingredient simply swap it out for one you do love. And, as always, if you have questions, let me know!

Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of slider buns do I use?

Use whatever slider bun you like. We prefer a slider bun that is not so sweet. If you are a fan, use the ever-so-popular Hawaiian sweet rolls! You can also use your favorite dinner roll! Again, this is total personal preference as far as what kind of bread situation you use.

Can the sliders be made ahead?

Yes! You can make the sliders up to a day ahead of the time you need to serve. If you do baked them chilled, simply add 3-4 minutes of cooking time or until the cheese is nice and melty.

What's the best ground beef for cheeseburger sliders?

I would highly suggest a lean blend - either 90/10 (10% fat content) or 93/7 (7% fat content). You can definitely use a higher fat content ground beef, but you will have excess liquid and fat to contend with.

Serving Ideas

Cheeseburger sliders are awesome because they can be served as an appetizer, lunch, or dinner. My kids have even been know to request them warmed up for a fun twist on breakfast! They're great for parties, backyard get-togethers, game day and are great to bring to tailgate. You just cannot go wrong!

I usually serve ours with sliced tomato and onion, shredded iceberg, and hamburger pickles if someone wants to add them to the sliders. Make sure you keep that burger sauce close by. People will gravitate towards it once they get a taste.

My kids love a good crunchy kettle chip on the side, but Crispy Roasted Potatoes would be a perfect accompaniment!

You can also try different sauces for dipping! My Carolina Mustard BBQ Sauce, Homemade BBQ Sauce, The Alabama White Sauce from my Spatchcock Chicken recipe are so good!

Tips and Tricks

  • Bake the sliders uncovered so they don't become soggy. Covering them will cause the sweating and excess moisture.
  • Remove any excess fat from the cooked beef and onions to prevent unnecessary sogginess in the buns.
  • By using a layer of cheese, a layer of beef, and a layer of cheese during the construction phase, you'll help seal in excess juices thus preventing too much sogginess.
  • Add the sesame seeds to the buns as soon as you brush on the butter so they stick better.

Substitutions and Variations

  • If you're not feeling beef, shredded rotisserie chicken is a fantastic substitution.
  • You can also use ground chicken, turkey, or pork!
  • Make the burger sauce spicy by adding a little sriracha to the mix!
  • Use any slider bun you prefer. You can even turn these into cheeseburger egg rolls or taquitos!
  • Sauté mushrooms along with the onions for added flavor!

Storage And Reheating Instructions

Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days. They reheat great in the microwave or in the oven.

Yes, they can! And, they reheat quite well! Simply microwave each slider, uncovered, for about 15-20 seconds.

Equipment

  • baking sheet
  • parchment paper
  • large skillet
  • chef's knife
  • cutting board

Ingredients

Burger Sauce

  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • ¼ cup dill pickle relish or sweet if you prefer
  • 2 tablespoon whole grain or stone ground mustard
  • 2 tablespoon ketchup
  • 2 tablespoon sweet chili sauce
  • 1 tablespoon tamari or soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • kosher salt and fresh ground pepper, to taste

The Cheeseburger Sliders

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1-2 tablespoon all-purpose seasoning
  • ½ med onion, diced
  • 1 dozen slider buns of choice
  • 1 pkg sliced cheddar cheese
  • 8 oz Monterrey Jack cheese, shredded
  • 2 tablespoon butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds

Instructions

The Burger Sauce

  • Mix all the burger sauce ingredients together in a mixing bowl. Store in the fridge until ready to serve.

The Cheeseburger Sliders

  • Brown the ground beef along with the onion and your favorite all-purpose seasoning.
  • Grab a baking sheet and line it with parchment paper. Lay out the bottom halves of your chosen slider buns and add one layer of the sliced cheddar cheese. Next, spread the ground beef/onion mixture onto an even layer on top of the sliced cheese.
  • Top the ground beef layer with the shredded Monterrey Jack cheese and add the bun tops.
  • Mix the melted butter and Worcestershire sauce together and brush on the slider tops. Sprinkle the tops with the sesame seeds.
  • Bake in a preheated 400° oven for about 15-20 minutes or the cheese is nice and melty and ooey-gooey!
  • Let cool slightly, pull apart, dip into that glorious burger sauce, and enjoy!

Notes

I serve my burger sauce on the side at the end for dipping because my kids are very picky about sauces. You can do that or spread some in the middle of the burgers before baking. They'll be great either way!
