Frequently Asked Questions
Should I thaw the potstickers before frying?
I recommend frying the potstickers frozen and not thawed. They can become gummy if thawed first and may not hold their shape. Just toss them in the air fryer straight from the freezer!
How long do I cook the potstickers in the air fryer?
When deciding how long to cook potstickers in air fryer, it’s important to note if you’re using full-size or mini versions. It will take about 12 minutes cook full-size potstickers and about 8 minutes for the minis. However, every air fryer is different and every brand of potsticker is different. It can take between 8 - 18 minutes to get them just right. Start checking on them after 6 minutes and turn them often until the potstickers become nice and crispy all over.
Where do I find potstickers?
Thankfully, just about anywhere nowadays. I've seen them everywhere from my small town grocery store to Target and Walmart. However, my very favorite place to get this is at our local Asian Mart. They have so many fun options and I always leave with something new to try!

Variations and Substitutions
- If you prefer, use spring rolls or egg rolls. The method remains the same. Just adjust cook time as needed.
- Use any dipping sauce you prefer. Sriracha, sambal oelek, and spicy mustard are all great options!
- Frozen potstickers are now available in mini sizes. They are awesome and very poppable into your mouth. If you grab these, cut down on the cook time just a bit! Note: I can eat my body weight in the mini potstickers.
Tips and Tricks
- Don't overcrowd the air fryer. If you try to place too many in the air fryer, they run the risk of steaming instead of "frying". We want maximum crispiness. Give them space.
- Use your favorite spray oil. I highly recommend an avocado spray oil. The spray allows for a more even coating of the oil than other methods.
- The difference in air fryers and the difference in brand and size of your potsticker will affect the cook time. Start watching the potstickers around the 6 minute mark. I've seen them take anywhere from 8 minutes to 18 minutes to get nice and crispy.

Serving Ideas
These potstickers are just too good. You can make them for a quick lunch or super easy dinner. I love to serve them as snacks for the kids after school. They're perfect to set out on game day and fantastic during all of the holiday get togethers. You just can't go wrog!

Air Fryer Potstickers Recipe
Ingredients
Sweet Chili Sauce
- ⅓ cup water
- ⅓ cup granulated sugar
- ⅓ cup rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sambal oelek or sriracha
- 1½ teaspoon garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
- 1 teaspoon tamari or soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon ketchup
- 2 teaspoon cornstarch, dissolved in 1 tablespoon water
Yum Yum Sauce
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon granulated garlic
- 1 teaspoon granulated onion
- 1 teaspoon sriracha more or less depending on your spice preference
- 1 teaspoon tamari or soy sauce
Instructions
Crispy Wontons
- Preheat your air fryer to 400°. Place the potstickers on a baking sheet or a large plate. Evenly coat the potstickers with the avocado spray oil.
- Add the wontons in a single layer with plenty of space between each one in the air fryer. Let them cook for about 12 minutes or until nice and crispy. See note below.
Sweet Chili Sauce
- In a saucepan over medium-high heat, combine the water, rice vinegar, sugar, sambal oelek, garlic, ginger, ketchup, and tamari. Stir until the sugar dissolves and bring the mixture up to a simmer.
- Add the cornstarch slurry and stir until combined. Remove from heat and let cool.
Yum Yum Sauce
- Mix together the mayo, ketchup, sriracha, rice vinegar, smoked paprika, granulated garlic and onion, and rice vinegar.
Serving
- Once the potstickers are nice and crispy, dunk in one or two of the sauces and enjoy!
Notes
- The difference in air fryers and the difference in brand and size of your potsticker will affect the cook time. Start watching the potstickers around the 6 minute mark. I've seen them take anywhere from 8 minutes to 18 minutes to get nice and crispy.
- If you like a sweeter sauce, add granulated sugar or honey to one or both of the above sauces. I would start with a teaspoon and go up from there depending on your taste.

Storage and Reheating Instructions
- For the very best result, I suggest only air frying the amount of potstickers you intend on eating in one sitting.
- The sauces will stay good for up to 4-5 days in the fridge in an airtight container.
