Tips and Tricks
- Pull the wings out of the fridge at least 30 minutes before cooking.
- Keep them in a single layer during cooking to allow the air to flow better.
- Dry the wings as much as possible. This is also to help the skin crisp.
- Don't skip the baking powder and make sure you're not using baking soda!
- Start air frying with the skin side down, flip, and finish skin side up for the best result.
Variations and Substitutions
- If you love a blue cheese dipping sauce, try my creamy blue cheese dressing instead of the ranch!
- My homemade buttermilk ranch is also phenomenal with these wings.
- Add cayenne to the all-purpose seasoning to give the wings some added kick!

Frequently Asked Questions
What if I don't have an air fryer?
No worries! If you do not have an air fryer, use a sheet pan and an oven safe rack. Increase the oven temperature to 425° and cook the wings until they reach an internal temp of 165°. Depending on the size of the wings, it may take up to an hour to cook. I suggest turning them every 20 minutes or so to ensure an even crisp of the skin.
Are these air fryer chicken wings recipe gluten and/or dairy-free?
The wings themselves are both gluten and dairy-free! Sub the butter in the buffalo sauce for your favorite dairy-free butter or leave it out all together. For the ranch, swap the sour cream for your favorite dairy-free version.

Air Fryer Chicken Wings Recipe
Ingredients
The Chicken Wings
- 6 lbs chicken wing drumettes and wingettes
- 3 tablespoon all-purpose seasoning
- 2 tablespoon aluminum-free baking powder not baking soda
The Buffalo Sauce
- 1 stick butter
- ⅔ cup Frank's RedHot hot sauce
- 1 tablespoon white wine vinegar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon granulated garlic
- 1 tsp granulated onion
The Ranch
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 ranch seasoning packet
- 1 teaspoon dried dill weed
Instructions
Chicken Wings
- Preheat air fryer to 400°.
- Pull thawed wings out of the fridge about 30 minutes before you're ready to cook. Lay them out in single layer onto a baking sheet to make this next step easier.
- Use a paper towel and try to absorb as much moisture from the wings as possible.
- In a large mixing bowl, toss wings in my all-purpose seasoning.
- Once the wings are tossed in the seasoning, evenly sprinkle baking powder (NOT BAKING SODA) over the wings. Toss to ensure the wings are evenly coated in the seasoning and the baking powder.
- Place the wings, skin side down, and let them air fry for 10 minutes. Flip them over after 10 minutes, making sure the skin is facing up, and cook for an additional 10 minutes.
The Buffalo Sauce
- In the microwave, slowly and carefully melt butter in a microwave-safe dish or 2-cup measuring cup. Whisk in remaining Buffalo sauce ingredients. Set aside.
The Ranch
- Mix ranch dip ingredients together and set aside.
Serving
- Once the wings are cooked to an internal temp of 165°, they're ready to serve. Toss in the sauces or serve them on the side. However you do it, enjoy!
